Volunteer Rights & Code of Conduct

The Crud Muffins Inc is an artist-led not-for-profit whose objective is to nourish imagination, inspire creativity and empower the artist within everyone. 

We aim to advance arts education and creative culture through a number of activities in a variety of public and community settings to foster and provide opportunities for art and craft appreciation, instruction, and participation.

With collaboration a key focus of our organisation’s creative practice, The Crud Muffins Inc aim to engage and bring together a diversity of people to foster community development, establishing safe and inclusive spaces where people of all ages, genders, identities, backgrounds, abilities, and skills levels can explore, play, express themselves, and connect through the arts.

Code of Conduct

By volunteering with our organisation you agree to contribute to the success of projects and space activations at events by:

  • Being safe and ensuring the safety of others

  • Participating in orientations/inductions and following WHS practices/policies 

  • Only undertaking duties that you’re authorised to perform, always operating under the direction and supervision of nominated staff and obeying reasonable directions/instructions 

  • Notifying the Volunteer Coordinator of any health and safety issues or potentially hazardous situations that may pose a risk to yourself or others, reporting accidents or incidents, and in the case of an emergency contacting emergency services 

  • Being aware of any issues that may cause problems, reporting to the Volunteer Coordinator, and asking for help if needed

  • Using any property or equipment given to you in your volunteer role safely and only for purpose of the role, returning it to The Crud Muffins Inc when finished 

  • Being reliable and committed

  • Being contactable, on-time and carrying out duties allocated to you to the best of your ability 

  • Contacting the Team Leader or Volunteer Coordinator as early as possible if circumstances prevent you from attending 

  • Conducting yourself in a way that positively reflects and supports The Crud Muffins Inc

  • Upholding the standards and values of The Crud Muffins Inc by supporting the organisations’ aims and objectives 

  • Having a positive and friendly approach to ensure visitors and peers have an enjoyable and memorable experience 

  • Behaving in a professional, appropriate, and courteous manner and treating others with honesty, fairness, sensitivity, and dignity 

  • Ensuring you will not verbally harass or abuse any person or use offensive or discriminatory language

  • Respecting all people who you come in contact with 

  • Ensuring you will not use, possess or be under the influence of drugs or alcohol at any time while volunteering 

  • Ensuring you comply with the law at all times

  • Providing feedback

  • Being open and honest regarding your experience as a volunteer

  • Letting The Crud Muffins Inc know of improvements to their volunteer program and the support received 

Your rights

As a volunteer, you have the right to:

  • Suitable tools for the job and a safe work environment in which you’re covered by Personal Accident Insurance

  • Fair and professional treatment regarding your role, safety, and privacy

  • Be asked for permission before any references, police or other checks are conducted

  • Know the aims, objectives and rules of the organisation

  • Be provided with a clear job description clarifying your role and the tasks you’re authorised to perform

  • Be kept informed of organisational changes and their reasons

  • Receive appropriate orientation and training for the volunteer role/tasks

  • Engage in volunteer tasks/roles which are worthwhile and meaningful, for no more than 16 hours a week on a regular basis in one role

  • Receive reimbursement of pre-agreed expenses

  • Have your feedback welcomed and valued

  • Receive a verbal reference or statement of service, if appropriate

Our rights

As an organisation, The Crud Muffins Inc has the right to:

  • Expect volunteers to undertake training/orientations provided and adhere to safety rules/procedures

  • Interview and screen volunteer applicants, which may include contacting references and conducting police and WWC checks

  • Decide on best placement for volunteers and have this decision respected, negotiating work assignments when/if necessary

  • Expect volunteers to carry out their roles/tasks to the best of their ability in a professional and dedicated manner

  • Receive clear and open communication from volunteers

  • Only accept criticism and feedback which is constructive and professional

  • Express feedback regarding poor volunteer efforts in a diplomatic, constructive and professional manner

  • Release volunteers under certain circumstances when/if appropriate and/or necessary
